Descriptions and Learning Objectives

Day 1: Universal Screening with Amanda VanDerHeyden and Stephanie Stollar

How to select and use screening measures to power your MTSS/RTI process. We will provide specific recommendations and guide attendees through completing a screening inventory and identifying the best measures to use for reading and math screening. We will provide how to training in understanding how screening works (how is a cutscore set? how do we know how accurate screening measures are?), in making use of screening data for MTSS/RTI decision making, and avoiding over-screening. Ideal outcomes would be that attendees go back to their sites and organize their screening data, share what they have learned to modify their screening procedures for better accuracy and efficiency. We will teach attendees how to use screening data to evaluate their programs of instruction generally and to determine classwide and individual student risk

Day 2: Classwide Intervention with Amanda VanDerHeyden and Matt Burns

How to use classwide intervention as Tier 1.5 in your MTSS/RTI process. We will provide specific how to protocols, video and case examples to help attendees understand the mechanics of deploying and supporting classwide intervention where it is needed. We will detail the science that underlies classwide intervention, explain how it functions as a superior second screening gate when there is a lot of risk in a system, and situate the process in the instructional hierarchy and general program of instruction and MTSS. We will also assist attendees to identify their existing implementation support structures and detail how those procedures can be upgraded. Ideal outcomes would be that attendees go back to their sites and try classwide intervention in reading and math.

Day 3: Bringing the Data Together with Amanda VanDerHeyden and Tim Runge

Building better individual interventions and bringing all the data together to evaluate RTI as part of an eligibility decision. We will provide step-by-step details in how to plan, deploy, and evaluate individual interventions for RTI decisions. We will use video and sample intervention protocols during the session and guide users through an intervention inventory. We will direct them to the NCII tools chart site to evaluate their existing intervention and consider whether their intervention plan needs modification. We will also assist attendees to identify their existing implementation support structures and detail how those procedures can be upgraded. Detailed case examples of eligibility determination for SLDs in reading, writing, and math using RTI data will be shared.
