Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how school-based professionals approach communication, documentation, research, intervention planning, and other routine responsibilities.

This two part interactive workshop series will provide participants with a practical framework for understanding and using generative AI while maintaining professional judgment, ethical responsibility, data privacy, and high-quality services for students and families.

Session 1

Ethical AI Use in School Psychology: Bias, Disclosure, and Responsible Practice

November 12, 2026 | 12–3 p.m. Eastern

This session will introduce generative AI and explore its potential benefits, limitations, and ethical implications for school psychologists. Topics will include confidentiality, accuracy, bias, transparency, disclosure, documentation, and the importance of professional judgment.

Participants will consider how AI may support school psychology practice while maintaining responsibility for the quality and appropriateness of their work. Research, professional guidance, and practical examples will provide a framework for evaluating AI tools and identifying safeguards relevant to participants’ settings.

Learning objectives

By the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

1. Identify key ethical considerations for AI use in school psychology, including confidentiality, bias, transparency, disclosure, documentation, and professional judgment.

2. Describe safeguards for using AI in professional workflows, communication, documentation, consultation, and service delivery.

3. Evaluate how AI may support school psychologists while preserving professional judgment, accountability, and ethical responsibility.

Session 2

Artificial Intelligence in Practice: Tools and Strategies for School Psychologists

November 19, 2026 | 12–3 p.m. Eastern

This applied, hands-on session will explore practical strategies for using generative AI in school psychology. Through demonstrations and opportunities for practice, participants will explore ways to communicate tasks clearly, refine AI-generated content, and evaluate outputs before using them professionally.

Examples may include communication, documentation, intervention planning, research, accessible materials, and reusable workflows. The session will build on the ethical principles introduced in Session 1, with emphasis on protecting confidential information, checking accuracy, recognizing unsupported content, and maintaining professional oversight. Examples and activities will be adapted to the VASP audience, participant needs, available tools, and relevant policies.

1. Apply prompting and refinement strategies to school psychology tasks.

2. Evaluate AI-generated content for accuracy, relevance, and alignment with the information provided.
